Install and activate

Download Fablekeep, install it on Windows and activate it with your licence key — online or with an offline code.

Fablekeep runs on the computer you use as the Dungeon Master: usually the laptop you bring to the table. Your players don’t install anything and don’t need a licence — they join from a browser on their phone or computer.

What you need

  • A PC with Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • The licence key from your purchase receipt e-mail.
  • An internet connection once, to activate. After that Fablekeep works offline.

Download the installer

  1. Go to the download page.
  2. Paste your licence key into Your licence key.
  3. Click Download for Windows. The download starts by itself; if it doesn’t, click Didn’t start? Click here.

The download link only lasts a short while. If it expires, paste your key again and you get a fresh one.

Install Fablekeep

  1. Open the file you downloaded (Fablekeep-Setup-<version>-x64.exe).
  2. Follow the installer’s screens. You can keep the suggested folder or choose another one.
  3. Leave Run Fablekeep ticked on the last screen and click Finish.

The installer is for your Windows user only, so it doesn’t ask for an administrator password. It adds Fablekeep to the Start menu and the desktop.

Activate Fablekeep

The first time Fablekeep opens, it shows the Activate Fablekeep screen.

  1. Copy the licence key from your receipt e-mail.
  2. Paste it into Licence key.
  3. Click Activate.

After a moment you see “Fablekeep is activated. Welcome, …!” and the first-run screen, where you can start a world or open the demo. Next step: Your first session.

No internet on this computer?

You can activate a computer that never goes online with an activation code from us.

  1. On the Activate Fablekeep screen, click No internet on this computer? Use an activation code.
  2. Under This computer’s ID, click Copy.
  3. Send that ID and your licence key to support@fablekeepvtt.com from any device.
  4. When the code arrives, paste it into Activation code and click Activate with code.

An activation code only works on the computer whose ID you sent.

One key, three computers

Each licence key works on up to 3 computers at the same time — for example your laptop, a desktop and a home server. Each computer you activate uses one seat.

To see or free your seats, open a world, then Settings (Ctrl+,, or the … menu at the top right) and go to Licence:

  • Computers shows how many seats are in use.
  • Under Activations, click Remove next to a computer you no longer use. It will need to be activated again before it can open worlds.
  • Deactivate this computer frees the seat of the computer you are on — do this before you sell or wipe it.

Your worlds are never deleted when you deactivate. They stay on disk and open again when you activate.

Playing offline

Fablekeep doesn’t need the internet to play. It checks your licence quietly whenever the computer happens to be online, and each check is good for 90 days offline.

  • Settings → Licence → Offline use shows until when this computer can stay offline. Check now checks right away.
  • In the last days, a notice asks you to connect once. Connect the computer to the internet and start Fablekeep; it renews by itself.
  • If 90 days pass without a check, the next time Fablekeep starts it shows Connect once to renew your licence. Connect to the internet and click Reconnect. Your worlds are untouched.

Losing the connection never counts against you, and a session that is already running is never interrupted.

Updates

Fablekeep looks for updates on its own when the computer is online, downloads them in the background and installs them the next time you quit.

  • Settings → Licence shows the update status. When it says “Version … is ready”, click Restart to update to install it now, or just keep playing.
  • Check for updates, in the same place, looks right away.
  • Update channel: Stable is the default. Beta gets new features first and may have rough edges.

Updating never touches your worlds, backups or settings.

Lost your key?

Your key is in your purchase receipt e-mail. You can also find every purchase at creem.io/my-orders: sign in with the e-mail address you bought with. If you’re still stuck, write to support@fablekeepvtt.com.
