Fablekeep

End-User Licence Agreement

Last updated:

You buy Fablekeep once and keep it: a perpetual personal licence, no subscription. Activate it online once, then play offline; the app needs to reach our licence server once every 90 days and never interrupts a game. Up to three computers per key.

1. The parties

Fablekeep is operated by David Bolívar Saldarriaga, Colombia, who is the licensor (“Fablekeep”, “we”). This agreement is between you and the licensor. Creem sells Fablekeep to you as merchant of record and reseller (see section 3); the licence to use the software comes from us.

2. Your licence

When you buy Fablekeep, we give you a perpetual, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the version you bought, together with the updates we release for it, for your own games — in person, online or both, including games where you are paid to run the table as a game master.

  • No subscription. It is a one-time purchase. The licence does not expire.
  • Updates. Updates we publish for your edition are included. We may sell a future major edition separately; if we do, the version you have keeps working.
  • Your players join through a browser and do not need a licence.
  • No free trial. The desktop app needs a licence key: without one it only shows the activation screen. The demo worlds bundled with the app are a guided starting point for owners, not a trial.

3. Purchase and payment

Purchases are processed by Creem, which acts as merchant of record and reseller. Creem’s buyer terms apply to the payment; it charges and remits sales tax or VAT, issues your receipt and processes refunds. Your licence key arrives with your receipt; you download the app with that key from fablekeepvtt.com/download. See Refunds for our refund policy.

4. Activation and offline play

  • Activate once, online. Enter your key once while connected to the internet. After that, Fablekeep runs offline.
  • Once every 90 days. To keep the licence current, the app must reach our licence server at least once every 90 days. It does this quietly whenever you are online anyway (for example when it checks for updates). It warns you well before the deadline.
  • Never mid-game. A licence check never interrupts a running session. If the 90 days pass without a check, the next launch asks you to connect once before it opens your worlds; your worlds are untouched and everything returns as soon as it does.
  • Network failures never count against you. If our server is unreachable, your licence stays valid for the full period.

5. Three machines per key

You can activate each key on up to 3 computers at the same time — say a desktop, a laptop and a home server. You can see and free activations from within the app (Settings → Licence). If you need more, write to support@fablekeepvtt.com.

6. Our end-of-life promise

If Fablekeep is ever discontinued, we will publish a final update that removes the licence check, so the copy you bought keeps working without our servers.

7. What you may not do

Unless the law expressly allows it despite this restriction, you may not:

  • share, publish, sell or rent your licence key, or let others activate it;
  • crack, bypass or remove the licence check, or distribute tools that do;
  • copy and distribute the software, or reverse-engineer it except as permitted by law for interoperability;
  • use Fablekeep to redistribute content you do not have the rights to (see the Terms, section 5).

8. Your worlds and content

Your worlds are stored locally, in files you own, on your computer or a server you choose. We claim no rights in them and cannot see them. You are responsible for the content you import and how you share it; the rules in the Terms of Use, section 5 (copyright, asset packs, AI features, character imports) apply to the app as well.

9. Self-hosted and online play

When you run Fablekeep as a server for your players — on your home network or on a server online — you are the operator of that server. You are responsible for it, for who you invite, and for your players’ data on it (names, characters, chat and the like). We do not receive that data.

10. Optional AI features

Both AI features are off by default, and neither generates images or art. The assistant connects your own account with an AI provider (for example Anthropic’s Claude, through MCP) to help you prepare and run your campaigns with your own worlds and the assets you own; every change it makes is a draft you can review or revert. The AI text helpers (NPC name suggestions and session recap drafts) use your own API key with an OpenAI-compatible service or Anthropic, or a local model; without them, built-in generators do the job. What these features work with travels between your app and the provider you chose, under its terms and privacy policy, never through us. You are responsible for your provider accounts and their costs.

You must not use the AI features to create sexually explicit, pornographic, sexually suggestive or other adult (NSFW) content of any kind, and never content that sexualises minors, whatever your provider’s own terms allow. See the Acceptable Use Policy and the Terms of Use, section 5.3.

11. Third-party components

Fablekeep includes open-source software, fonts, icons and SRD 5.2 material under their own licences. Those licences apply to those components and are listed in the app (Settings → About) and on the Licences page.

12. Revocation

We may revoke a licence key only for a material breach: piracy or cracking, sharing or reselling keys, refund or chargeback fraud, using services we run to distribute infringing content, or serious or repeated breaches of the Acceptable Use Policy. Where possible we will give you notice first and a chance to respond. A refunded purchase also revokes its key. A revocation never interrupts a running session; at the next launch the app shows only the activation screen, and your worlds stay on your computer.

13. Warranty and liability

Fablekeep is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Keep backups of your worlds; Fablekeep has a built-in backup feature to help. Nothing here limits your statutory rights as a consumer, including any legal guarantee of conformity that applies where you live.

14. Law, changes and the rest

This agreement is governed by the laws of Colombia, without taking away the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live. We may update it for future versions; the terms you accepted keep applying to the version you bought, and updates you choose to install may come with updated terms that we will show you. If part of this agreement is held invalid, the rest stays in effect. Questions: support@fablekeepvtt.com.
